GPU Acceleration not working - vlcrc file corrupted?

Postby Mr Wolf » 21 Oct 2013 22:22

Hi!
After I upgraded VLC to 2.1.0, I noticed that GPU Acceleration doesn't seem to work anymore: I had it enabled, because it removed "artifacts" playing mkv videos. Now, if I select "Automatic" or "DirectX Video Acceleration", nothing changes, that is, it is as it is always set to "Disabled".
However - to make it short - I have an hard disk on which some months ago I cloned the OS and on which I upgraded VLC (from an older version) and GPU acceleration works, but, in this case, if I disable it, it stays enabled!

Finally, I tried just to delete vlcrc to create a new one, but even if I enable GPU acceleration, it stays disabled.

By the way, I've also noticed that, if enable equalizer, it doesn't stay enabled, even if I select to write the setting.

So, is there something wrong with vlcrc file? I just can't understand why it doesn't keep the GPU acceleration setting eveb when a new vlcrc is created.

Sorry, I forgot to say this happens with all my notebooks, both with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit: one has a Nvidia GeForce GT 650m, and the other one has an AMD Radeon HD 6290.

Would it be useful to attach the vlcrc files?

The issue happens both on nVidia and ATI?

Yep. In my humble opinion, during the upgrade to 6.1.0, the configuration file messes up.

Just installed. ^_^
Enabling/disabling GPU acceleration has no effect at all.

To remove artifacts, I have to go to Settings -> Effects and filters -> Video effects and enable "Image adjust"

To be clear, by artifacts I mean this (look at the black on the left side):

And this without artifacts:

By the way, after installing 2.1.2, now I have a new problem: mkv videos don't play "smooth", in special way, when I go back and forth playing a video.
I mean this:

I guess tomorrow I'll go back to a previous version.
