2nd Monitor - only sound/video black

Postby aitte » 03 Oct 2013 05:03

Hi,

I'm on 2.1 and have a black video as soon as I move VLC to my second screen. I tried to select my second screen (Desktop extended) manually in the display device list in the DirectX option, but there's only the option "default". Yesterday I could select either //display1 or //display2.

I don't know what happened. I have no problems playing videos using other players. Reinstalling didn't help.

Just went back to an older VLC (0.8.6). This version has a button to refresh the list. After refreshing it contains //display1 and //display2 as it should. Why is there no such button in the current version?

I have exactly the same fault after updating to version 2.1.0.

Partially dragging the VLC window between the 2 displays, the part of the window remaining on the primary display continues to render the video image normally. The section of VLC window on the secondary display is frozen.

You're right. It's working again after I downgraded to 2.0.8. It's definitely a problem with 2.1.0. But it looks like no one here cares?

Yep, i can confirm it, 2.0.8 helps....but in my opinion the vlc team has to do some rework...i hope they'll do it and fix the problem with a new version..

Same here - is there no solution, yet? :?

Also my player won't stay on the 2nd screen. After closing it always pops up on 1st monitor....

You might add our initial problem with the black video when moving to the second display

Same problem.
I already mentioned it in another thread when I thought it's a bug with overlay.
As I found out, it's not a problem with overlay itself. Vlc seems to use "DirectX (DirectDraw)" as standard video output module. At least this one is the only one which activates overlay mode, so I think it chooses this automatically. Also a lot of people have chosen this one because it's suggested if someone has problems with the output.
This module will work until version 2.0.8. From 2.1.0 on vlc won't use it because it wouldn't show a picture, so it chooses another one without overlay mode.
If you manually chose "DirectX (DirectDraw)" in the settings, it will not show a picture, just play the sound.

So it seems to be a bug in the "DirectX (DirectDraw)" module. It won't work on a second monitor anymore.
Please someone fix it, the new vlc is unusable for me if it can't use this, because I need overlay which the other modules can't use obviously.

Edit:

Code: Select all

main debug: VoutDisplayEvent 'double click' qt4 debug: Qt: Fullscreen state changed qt4 debug: Qt: Entering Fullscreen qt4 debug: Qt: Fullscreen state changed main debug: VoutDisplayEvent 'resize' 1920x1080 fullscreen directdraw warning: DirectDrawUpdateOverlay cannot move/resize overlay directdraw warning: DirectDrawUpdateOverlay cannot move/resize overlay [repeats the line until fullscreen is left]
There is no line about it also not showing a picture in window sized mode though.

(Win XP SP3 x32)

Edit 2: An unrelated side note: Please make that the settings window remembers its size and position. It's very annoying if it hides under other windows everytime you want to change settings.

You should use DirectDraw and disable overlay in preferences.

I'm using it already. But that's the problem, "DirectX (DirectDraw)" doesn't work properly anymore (on 2nd screen).
Disabling overlay doesn't help and even if it would this setting would not be an option for me because I need overlay mode.
