A possible problem please read

I am writing here because there does not seem to be any other way to contact you.

I dled your program for windows on the 19th in order to run 3 files I also dled.

Later that day my pc crashed and was discovered that it had 15 trojan viruses on it created that day.

The file name was

firewall-anti.exe

I am writing this because you are one of 4 progams that were dled that day, and need to know if this is one of the files you have in your program.

btw, VLC windows binaries are compiled under linux so we are 100% sure that all windows binairies downloaded off videolan.org servers are virus/trojan/... free

firewall-anti.exe is not related to vlc at all..

I would suspect one of the other 3 programs, OR even something secretly installed and malicious from any website you might have visited at that time.

these should have only been media files..

Please do give detail about how vlc may have been potentially related to any of this.. -because it is very important in that vlc is free software(Open Source - GNU/GPL) and anybody could package vlc within a malicious package. It would be good to know if someone is doing that.

again, it is a shame that this has happened, and I can assure you that it was not the vlc media player that caused this. And I would encourage you to download a package directly from the sites here(videolan.org) to ensure that no tampering has occured by any 3rd party... -in case you haven't done that.

I'm sorry that you see what I wrote as sarcastic. I do not appreciate the rolling eyes emote at all.

3 video clips were made by taking parts of a tv program by a user, and put together with Quick Time. Due to the problems with a compression being missing, I looked up online and found this website. Yes I did dl your program from your site, yes I did do everything as stated. All on the same day Sept 19th.

I am trying to narrow down who it could be, as these are the only programs ... vlc and 3 QuickTime media files that were downloaded.

I've already tried to contact the one who created the files from QuickTime, but apparently they were done with a Mac machine, hosted on another site, and when I wanted to let people know about the trojans found .. they deleted the entire post.

I would be laughing but I am not .. one hard drive down the gutter and everything lost .. backups and all.

In favor of VLC:
I have been downloading VLC from this site since 2002, and never get nothing more than VLC, including nightly bilds zips version.
It's amazing that someone download something from anyware and run it without checking it first, and then try to blame others.

CherryTerri, please accept my apology for the misunderstanding. I did not see your post as sarcastic at all, and I took it very seriously. It is, to me, about a very serious issue... -and one that I feel very strongly about assuming what is involved.. -my assumption being that not only malicious activity was involved but also the involvement where someone was taking advantage of some unsuspecting person. To me, I don't like either one of those things, don't like to see them, don't like to see the results of them, or the aftermath of it... -nothing about it.

And to clarify.. -the rolling eyes emote, to me, shows my disdain for the results you described.

I hope that you do please re-read my post and understand that I meant no harm.. but in fact that I was very concerned about the situation of your position and feelings on the matter.

Quicktime media files can hide links to websites and files within the
stream itself, which leads me to believe that the movie redirected your computer to a hidden website and downloaded the trojan files while it was playing.
I normally use Graphedit to scan movie files for these links.
