emp.exe vs. vlc.exe

Postby dickday » 28 Aug 2013 14:26

Greetings.

I have downloaded vlc on two different machines, at two different times, both are Win7-32. On one, the executable is vlc.exe and the other has emp.exe Looking at the help/about info, they both appear to be the same version... VLC media player 2.0.5 Twoflower

Any idea why one has emp.exe? They both run just fine and have identical results when I execute my command-line code.

Thanks!

Where did you download from ? emp.exe is a trojan.

Download only from VLC site :

Thank you. Not exactly was I was hoping to hear :) I'll uninstall that. I'll check the downloads tonight when I get home and see where it came from.

Alex5723, I just read on this forum that Easy Media Player (emp.exe) is a re-packaged version of vlc. Hopefully what I have is just that, and not a virus. I will uninstall it and download the correct version.

Thanks

Easy Media Player was created in 2013 as a free audio and video player. It is based on the excellent Media Player Classic Home Cinema and will continue to be released on the GPLv3 license which is open source, so anyone can develop their own version of EasyMediaPlayer

Just an advice. On Windows PCs use only portable applications, that's true for VLC as well.
