Converting to MP4

Postby soundpro » 07 Mar 2013 17:52

The problem I am experiencing is with converting 3GP videos taken with my phone and AVI files created using CamStudio (another open source project) to MP4. I select Media from the menu and then choose Convert/Save. I add the 3GP or AVI file and then click the Convert/Save button. I name the file in the Destination file: text box and give it an extension of .mp4. Under Settings the Profile selected is Video - H.264 + MP3 (MP4). As soon as I click Start the VLC icon in the system tray will display a tooltip with Streaming when I hover my mouse cursor over it so it seems to be converting the file, but the resulting file displays no video and has no audio. The length of time matches the source file I added though. FYI I am using the latest version of VLC media player 2.0.5.

P.S. What is a PS file type (pun intended!)? That seems to be the default file type VLC media player goes with if I do not add a file extension after I name the converted file.

Did you ever get an answer or figure out how to do it? I downloaded VLC because I thought it would convert MP4 files to AVI, but after reading the documentation and the convoluted description of how to use it, I don't know what it can do. It does play my .avi or .mp4 files, though.
