Creating playlist and shuffling problems?

Hello all, I am using VLC media player 2.0.5 Twoflower and having problems with both creating a playlist and also using the shuffling feature, I have looked at some posts and tutorials on the net for both issues but something's confusing me so I came here to ask for help please? I am thinking the tutorials I came across may have been related to an older different interface than the new version?

Ok, if we can start with creating a playlist first, I open VLC and go to VIEW->Playlist but thing is I never actually created a playlist, all I did was import the folder which contains all of my videos so please tell me how can I "purposely" create playlists?
