Is it possible to use Windows XP to see Blurays?

I mainly use XP for my daily computing. To really start using Windows 7 would require installing several programs, and I am not so willing to do it.

Is ripping all the bluray movies only solution.

Go to "Start >> Run...", type in %appdata% and press Enter.

Then make an "aacs" folder in there, put KEYDB.cfg in that etc.

I did what was told in previous post. This is a XP machine, like it says on the title.

are in both C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXXXX\Application Data\aacs and in C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC folders. And they are for 32 bit Windows.

The drive F is the Bluray drive. Where is the log? The VLC program I use is from this link

After the error, I pressed the stop button repeatedly until errors stopped coming. My VLC version is VLC media player 2.1.0-git-20121204-0004 Rincewind. Rincewind? is this software supported by 4 elephants by the way. I hope you are a human anyway.

Do you have suggestions what to do next.

What parts in XP may cause problems with Blurays.
Like Ati display driver.
I could find no drivers in the CD which came with drive.

I just received my first blu-ray drive yesterday & I was also experiencing the "Path doesn't appear to be a bluray" issue with Windows XP (SP3, 32-bit Pro), in conjunction with the whoknowsmy.name guide.

With my Pioneer BDR-2208, I tried a blu-ray released last month and a five-year-old blu-ray, both commercial; same error.

After vaguely assuming AACS could be an issue, I decrypted both discs into standard .iso as well as file/folder format, stripping AACS. I used 3 different virtual drive programs to mount the .iso files & "Open Disc" and also selected the .iso files directly with "Open File"; same error.

When I used "Open Folder" for the file/folder dumps, selecting both root folder & BDMV folder, VLC just queued up all files with spurts of errors, eventually just choppily playing the .m2ts files after reporting "VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

In all instances, I made certain to select "BluRay" instead of default DVD on "Disc Selection" as well as trying "No disc menus" selected & unselected.

I became 99% certain the issue lied within how VLC interacts with XP; like XP, VLC's GUI was also not showing a disc or image present in the drive letters. From my personal experience in the past couple hours, I make the assumption VLC is dependent on the operating system's UDF driver. UDF 2.5 is blu-ray's profile standard, and XP does not natively support it e.g. one cannot view/see blu-ray contents in Windows Explorer (browser) on XP. Vista & 7 users never face this issue because UDF 2.5 & higher are natively installed, as the OS shows the contents of a blu-ray, no problem.

I tried installing Microsoft's own IMAPIv2.0 driver (KB932716) along with its corresponding "UDF 2.5 + Blu-ray write" update from 2009 (KB952011, Article ID: 952011 @ MS) to no success as many others have also reported. Thanks, Microsoft.

To attempt alternate success, you will need a different UDF driver. Follow the workaround "trick" posted here (UDF 2.5 driver found here). Many users around the web covet Toshiba's UDF driver for one reason or another; regardless, it worked for them & it worked for me. I am now able to both view the contents of blu-ray discs & images in Windows Explorer as well as execute successful playback in VLC through both optical & virtual drives.

If you have no issues viewing blu-ray contents in Windows Explorer, and your XP UDF driver is what it needs to be to understand blu-ray profile already, then I'm sorry to have wasted your time reading this. Perhaps try the Toshiba driver if you haven't already?

For what little I know about anything in this area, integrating a dedicated driver into VLC, like many disc-based programs already do, would save XP users headaches & confusion by the dozen. With casual users in mind, they might have no clue why they can access/read/dump/write blu-rays with other programs (which contain their own drivers) yet can't playback in the de facto standard VLC. Why does VLC rely on the operating system's UDF driver? Perhaps we XP enthusiasts will just be told to upgrade to 7

I must try this. Yes, it seems that XP here does not know what kind of disk is in the drive. That is the copy protection they did (Microsoft) not want to make in XP.

I installed the driver and now the Windows explorer shows the name of the disk. But the VLC complains about decrypting keys. I tried with the Prometheus movie. Errors are in the bottom of my post.

BUT The fellowship of the ring WORKED. OK, the video was like chopped, but thats a different problem.

Absolutely no way we can legally do that, so no. The issue is indeed the XP UDF driver, but we cannot do anything.
