Removing Plugins

Postby neosettler » 18 Dec 2012 17:54

Greetings everyone,

I'm doing a C++ wrapper for the VLC player (only play and stop features) and I was quite surprise to see that the API depends on a monstrous folder plugins. Apparently there is no way to get rid of this abomination entirely but I was wondering if it is possible to safely remove dead weight plugins because I think 75 mega is quite over the top.

Sure, you can remove any plugins you don't need.

VLC 2.0.5 plugins are only 10-15 MiB though depending on the platform. You might want to strip debug symbols if you get 75 MiB...

I don't think I need any, which ones are the essentials?

Then you can remove everything except file in access/ and everything except avi and mp4 in demux/...

It still depends.

Thank you for your respond Remi, could you elaborate a little on "it depends"?

No. Far too many variables.
