VLC 2.0.4 crashes converting youtube vids to mp3

I tried uninstalling VLC, then reintall version 2.0.4 using custom install with option to completely remove old preference enabled. I now have the "Audio - MP3(MP4) profile. I am able to convert mp4 to mp3 again.

Sorry to tell you i don't agree, the .mp3 files obtained using this way with this "Audio - MP3(MP4)" profile are NOT 100% compliant. Indeed i tried to use WMP [Windows Media Player] and got a failure message...

the mp3 conversion issue seems to be fixed in the [experimental] nightly build release 2.0.5:

The files created by the "Audio - MP3(MP4)" profile are not MPEG Layer III but Layer II. Thats the difference.

So I figured out a go around for the time being. You will lose some quality but it is better than nothing. Just convert the file to .mp4 format with VLC then convert the newly made .mp4 to .mp3. Again, you will lose quality of course, but it will allow you to play the file with devices that cannot use .mp4. Hope this helps.
