How can I force VLC to open in my primary monitor?

I use to open a second screen on my TV from my computer.
I chose that my primary screen should be the TV-screen since I want to use my TV-screen to manage my computer.
Computer screen is blue and all information is on the TV-screen.
Starting VLC on my TV-screen starts the VLC on the computer screen which is in another room.
I then have to go to the computer room and move the window sideways so that it appears on the TV.

I have tried different settings but has not been able to keep the VLC on the TV-screen.
ACDSee Pro 5 stays on the TV-screen when opened on the TV.

I have Vista on my computer.

Can anybody find a solution?

I am not sure what you mean but I do not start on fullscreen. I adjust display afterwards.
More info: Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce 9300 GE, a Philip monitor 4:3 and a Sony TV 1080HD 16:9
I set the Sony TV as my primary display and want all programs to start and stay on that display.
VLC will not show on the Sony display. Only the VLC-icon in the bottom of the screen shows in my primary display.
I have to move the window from the Philips display onto the Sony display manually.
Hopefully I have described my problem clearly.

I have a similar problem, upgraded from 2.0.2 to 2.0.4 today. It's a startup problem where the VLC window is restored to my primary monitor even though I close it in maximized state in my secondary monitor. Downgrading to 2.0.3 does not solve the problem while a further downgrade back to 2.0.2 does. The problem exists only with maximized window state if I resize the window and close VLC then the size and position is retained correctly at the next start on both monitors.
Win XP x86, RadeOn HD6450 with 2 monitor setup.

Let me know if you need more information. I wonder if it is a related issue to the one discussed here, but looks similar...

Yes, this is a bug of Qt in maximized states.

Now I have solved the problem with the displays.
I do not understand why it works now but I did it this way.

I checked the box for "Allow only one instance of VLC" in settings.
I then dragged the VLC onto the Sony TV-screen which was my primary screen.

When I then started VLC it showed the video on the TV-screen since it had to use the opened VLC for playing the video.

What I have described above is what you expect when only one instance is permitted.
What I do not understand is that next time I shared my PC-screen with the TV-screen, all worked perfect without the need to transfer VLC to the TV-screen.
Now everything that is started on the TV-screen stays on that screen.

My video settings is following: "Fullscreen" is unchecked and also "Always above" (Translated from the Svedish version)

Sorry, if I am waking an old thread back up, however I am having the exact same problem as described. I was using an old version of VLC and to my regret decided to update. VLC now always starts up on my first display and doesnt remember it's previous position anymore which used to be display 3, the TV.

I tried a lot of things I googled but have not been able to make VLC start up on the TV screen. Every other program seems to remember their position on which of the monitors they are supposed to be but VLC.

Please advice on how I can make VLC stay on the monitor it was meant to play on unless dragged and closed on another.

(Note this is not about starting in full screen mode or having separated controls, but about the VLC window not starting up on the right screen.)
