VLC wont play HD video

Postby GVLC » 25 Sep 2012 18:41

Hi all, i'm having a couple problems with VLC. i've been using an older VLC player but it refuses to play HD video from any source without going all blocky and stuttering along. when i play the same files in windows media it has no problems at all playing HD files. any ideas what could be causing this?

Also, until recently i've been using an older version of VLC, so i thought my above problem could be because i am using an older VLC so i upgraded only to find my play speed buttons either side of the time bar have vanished...how do i get them back?

Thanks!

Did you try to activate GPU decoding?

Well, 8400GS cannot do accelerate GPU decoding, I think.
VLC 2.0.3 can do better, I think. Force 2 threads in advanced preferences (use search)

I am havin a simlar problem with 2.0.3, I can play HD 720p videos fine, but it will not play 1080p videos, it gives sound, but no video, also when you close the VLC, it hangs up the process and I have to use the task manager to end the process. I have hardware Acceleration on but nothing happens on the video part. I also get the same issue with MP4 as well, and AVI, but on windows media player, Power DVD 12, media player classic, and Nero's media player they all play fine. Even with the Hardware acceleration off, the same thing.

My system is
Asus M5A97 Evo/Pro motherboard
AMD B55 quad core processor
Corsair ram 12 gigs 1066 DDR3
Nvidia 9800GTX Video card 1 Gig

I never said it was the same, I said similar, there is a difference, that is why I also said what it was as well, shortly after posting it in here I found a thread that was more on what I was looking for and posted in there as well.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. Took me a little while to figure it out. In the player, select View, and ensure that Status Bar is checked. At the bottom of the player window, you should see the status bar, with a small box displaying "1.00x." Click that box, and you'll see the speed controls.

I rather like this new implementation of the controls, as it makes it easier to return to normal playback speed.
