DVD Menu Will Not Play

I have VLC v.202. When I try to play an authored DVD the menu will not play and keeps looping with a black screen. I have no problems with WMP 11

Does it help if you're doing this ? :

Tools -> Preferences -> Show settings: ALL
Input codecs -> Access modules -> DVD with menus
Untick the option "Start directly in menu".
Save the preferences then exit and restart VLC.

Lotesdelere thank you for your reply. I already had the setting as you explained. However some DVD menus still will not play. All I get is a black screen.

Try this:

Menu Tools -> Preferences (Show Settings = ALL) -> Input/Codecs -> Demuxers
Then on the right panel, at the very bottom of the drop down list select Avformat Demuxer.
Save, exit and restart VLC.

Lotesdelere, I appreciate your help very much. I'm sorry to disappoint you but it will not play. I am trying to play one of my home made DVDs, authored with Pinnacle Studio 12.1. I don't usually have this problem.

Same problem with the euro 2 DVD set for The Dark Knight, I had to go back to an old version to get it to work [version 1.1.4], the old version threw up the rebuilding font cache window, then the DVD played. But each version of 2.xx I tried failed to read the DVD at all but could read and play the second DVD, so something has changed with VLC and reading DVD's

VLC can play the menu audio but there is no menu picture showing.
