http://ossproject-mediaplayer.blogspot. ... delay.html

This solution worked fine for me with 2.x. I switched it to the "win32 waveOut extension output" under Audio options for output and volume changing is instant again.

Although it does seem a little quieter... I think the adjustment scale is different... like linear vs logarithmic or something... but either way I'm happy that it's back to instant changing again. :)
thank you for the info, it does work but as mentioned the max volume is way lower this way.

hope they fix this in next version.

I am using VLC Version 2.1.0-git Rincewind from the nightly builds and the lag in the audio slider has gone :)

I have the same problem. I'm going to have to revert to a pre 2.0 version if theres no fix for this.

Any movement on this issue? It's quite annoying since 2.0 has so many great features but this audio lag it annoying the crap out of me when watching movies/tv shows or listening to music.

I went in to the FTP archives and used the libaout_directx_plugin.dll from the 7z file, dropped it right in the plugins/audio_output folder for 2.0:

http://download.videolan.org/pub/videol ... 1.9/win32/

This was the only thing that fixed it for me! Maybe this will help someone else too. There may be a similar fix for the OSX version but I don't have a way to check.

Still having issues with this. Anyone know what progress, if any, is being made on this; it's very frustrating?

It will be fixed in VLC 2.0.2, meanwhile you can use a nightly build (vlc-2.0.0-xxxxxxxx-xxxx is v2.0.2).

Problem still exists on 2.0.2, but it's much less noticeable, only around 100-200 ms response..

It's MUCH better now though, no reason to go about it anymore, right now it's whether you're picky perfectionist or not, (like me) but it's perfectly manageable to cope.

Thought I'd just note this in case admin wanted to know.

I'm still getting about a 1500-2000ms delay which makes it pretty difficult to just scroll the volume up or down to the right level which is what I was always used to. Again, this is only for files playing across a network which is kinda the whole point of videoLAN. I'm using windows 7 and streaming from an XP machine using normal windows file sharing (just double click the file in explorer) so I may have to hack it up again unless some of the other solutions work for this version. The previous hack i submitted did end up having some weird issues I noticed after a while. Namely, I would open VLC once and the volume would be fine, then the next time i'd open it the volume would be really low even at maximum but closing and reopening VLC would get it back to normal. Weird.

In 2.0.2 it's not bad for me, it's actually better. It must be depending on something, right now I notice that going over 100% volume limit (up to 200%) distorts Audio, I wonder if I can find a Thread already made for that.

Still present in 2.0.3 it gets worse and better at random.

I made a fix but it was not accepted in 2.0. You can get it in VLC 2.1 prereleases.

Alternatively, reduce caching.

VLC 2.0.3 have the same problem on my win 7 x64.
Rename DLLs solved the problem, but it needs to be fixed on the next VLC release.
Waiting for the next release without this problem... Thanks.

Edit: My mistake, rename DLLs does not solve the problem. Any workaround?

Thanks, but reduce caching does not solve the problem here.
Delay decreased, but is still present.
On latest daily build (x64), the volume control does not work.

@spodumene :
I just downloaded v2.0.4 and noticed the annoying audio lag issue. I hope the VLC programmers are working on fixing this problem for the upcoming release. But unwilling to wait I took your advice as a clue and simply copied the libaout_directx_plugin.dll file from my previous installation (v1.1.11) and it solved the problem for me! Thanks!

There is no way in hell that a plugin from VLC 1.1 would run in VLC 2.0. You could delete libaout_directx_plugin.dll to the same effects.

Essentially, you are using WaveOut instead of DirectSound. Selecting WaveOut as audio output in the VLC preferences would be a lot simpler.

I use VLC 2.0.4 and this issue is annoying. Is it going to be fixed on VLC 2.0.5 or we have to wait to VLC 2.1?
