VLC 2.0 - 2.0.2 | No .002,.003-file Support!!

Postby ms-7 » 19 Jul 2012 15:24

I have been using VLC for very long time and really like it :)
when the Version 2.0 was released i tried it and enjoy new improvements BUT there was 1 function which is removed from Version 2.0 and this feature is basic reason i uses VLC. So i had to uninstall v2.0 to revert back to v1.1.11 to use this function.

the function is....
my video file (.MKV) is in many parts (.MKV.001, .MKV.002, .MKV.003, ...)
videofile.mkv.001
videofile.mkv.002
videofile.mkv.003
....

Vlc 1.1.11 plays .MKV.001 file and automatically joins .001 with .002, .003,... if situated in same folder with same name.
but from Vlc 2.0 this function is not Working vlc only picks the first part .001 and when the part ends the video stopped thus not picking .002 and rest of parts.

please Re-add this function so i can enjoy new improvements with new version.

Update on my Problem..

first of all, the problem remains in Newer Version 2.0.3 of Vlc.
and secondly i tried a solution provided by Arite on VLC no longer plays .part files viewtopic.php?f=2&t=102664
go to "Tools >> Messages", set "Verbosity" to "2" then open a *.part file
but got no luck with that.... this solution didn't work for me.

Please help me with the problem.

Can you share a place where I can find some of those splitted files?

well you can split movies by free utility HJsplithttp://www.hjsplit.org. i suggest you to try out yourself
For Example..
this is my video file called mymovie.mkv size is 700mb
then i split the movie into parts using HJsplit of 100mb which makes 7 parts named
mymovie.mkv.001
mymovie.mkv.002
mymovie.mkv.003
mymovie.mkv.004
mymovie.mkv.005
mymovie.mkv.006
mymovie.mkv.007
--------------------------------
VLC 1.1.11 automatically plays the movie (picking all parts) but VLC 2.0 - 2.0.3 not picks the whole movie but only first part (mymovie.mkv.001)
Arite helps me with the problem by creating Ticket https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/7226
and also shows that this function is part of previous Vlc development http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc.git;a=co ... e229bc116b

see the rest of description in detail/Conversation with Arite here... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=102664#p347485
----------------------------------------------------------------
Imp Note: i am not talking about anything related to winrar (Uncompressed rar, etc)

Hi all,
I just tested and confirm the regression (test with Vlc 2.0.3)

Here are 4 split mkv files so j-b will be able to test.
They've been created from a 20Mb mkv file (3min56) split in 4 parts with Hjsplit
Each split file is nearly 1min long

1) Using Vlc 1.1.11
Drag mkv_split.001 in Vlc window and it plays the whole clip (3min56), even if parts .002 .003 .004 don't show in the playlist. You can even drag the slider wherever you want, all works fine.

2) Using Vlc 2.0.3
Drag mkv_split.001 and the clip stops after exactly 59s (59s is the end of 1st split file), the 3 other parts aren't recognized.
Hope it helps.

I have same problem when using Version 2.0. While waiting for solution, I use HJsplit to join the mkv files. Hoping for a proper solution soon.
