after closing VLC, i can't open it again, right away.

Postby sholizar » 21 Jun 2012 14:29

when i double click a video file, after closing other video file, vlc doe's not open.
i have the version 2.0.1(latest version).
i think that in earlier versions, i could open a video file, after closing one, immediately.
now, i need to wait 40 seconds, till i could open a video file(no matter if it's same file, or another).
i have windows 7.
it happens in a different computers(both have windows 7).
it doe's not happen in mp3 files.
with mp3, i can close vlc and open another mp3, right away, without waiting.

doe's anyone has this problem?
doe's anyone know how to solve this?

I don't have W7, but I imagine it's taking the VLC.exe process a while to close (if look in task manager). No idea why it'd be taking longer.

Could you use the VLC GUI & click on File> Open for another file, instead of waiting 40 sec?

It shouldn't take that long to shut down, unless something's conflicting w/ it or you had a bad install. You could try a fresh d/l, complete uninstall / reinstall.
I probably wouldn't install v2.x over the top of v1.x, if that's what you did.

If none of that helps & you've got plenty of free (or cached) RAM & not a ton of apps running, you might file a bug report.
Could also try closing you AV / FW temporarily. In a separate test, could close all other apps. If that speeds up closing, will have to figure out which one is interfering.

thanks for replying :-).
i have to say that sometimes, i can close a video file(opened with vlc) and immediately open another one.
but sometimes, i have to wait this time for vnc to open again.
i don't know is it happening :-).

"Could you use the VLC GUI & click on File> Open for another file, instead of waiting 40 sec?"

but i close VLC and then trying to open another video.
i dont stop the VLC player :-)

"You could try a fresh d/l, complete uninstall / reinstall."

in one computer it was a fresh install, but still it is happening.

i have 2 giga ram.
don't have plenty of applications running in the same time.
just antvirus(security essentials), babylon and BitTorrent Live.
that is all :-).

maybe, as you said, when it is happening, the process VLC.exe(didn't check it, because now it is working good), take time to close, but why is this happening sometimes, and sometimes it works good?

where can i report a bug?

thanks:-)

Usually a bug in VLC is preventing the closing. But it can also be a device driver bug, that hangs VOUT or AOUT close.

I got the same issue on xpsp3, vlc 2.0.5. I have discovered following: two same songs/mp3, in the second one the are wrong mp3 tags and missing cover art album (as a mp3 tag). The first song closes vlc immediately, the second one takes say 30s. I think vlc tries to find the album art on google/musicbrainz even after closing ....
