Playback of .FLV Videos Stops Prematurely

Postby VideoPlayer » 18 May 2012 13:02

I notice that when playing .FLV videos sometimes in VLC, the videos stops playing prematurely for no apparent reason, as if I'd just hit the Stop button. No error is displayed. If I try the same file in a different media player (e.g. GOM), it plays fine.

I just wondered if there are any known VLC bugs that may be causing this behaviour? I am currently using VLC Media Player 1.1.11 on XP Home SP 3. If I update to VLC 2.0.1, am I still likely to experience this issue?

Thanks.

I will update VLC. However, after further investigation I believe the problem may be caused by the .FLV files themselves (e.g. encoding issue), rather than the player.

Remuxing the files might fix the issue.

Yes. I have VLC 2.0.1 and have the same issue with many flv files.

I have a similiar problem. I am using Gentoo Linux and all my flv files I created with a program called getflv (Windows program I run in VMware) run fine in vlc 1.x, but when I upgrade to 2.x I see them stop after a few seconds. In 1.x I can't skip forward or backward but I can watching and speed them up. In 2.x after it stops the only thing I can do is quit. Every other viewer I've tried (xine, mplayer) won't play the flvs no matter what.

I have the same problem but only with VLC. GOM Player plays them fine.
