VLC gives me blue screen of death

Postby guest » 03 Mar 2004 12:20

Hello-

i have a vaio laptop 1gig processor, 384mb of ram, vlc.07- when trying to run on laptop or through video out (ati rage mobility-m1 agp) i get BSOD at random times  . I never know when it will happen. This is the only player i can use to play some of my wide screen movies. The BSOD happens so fast i cannot write down the error#. Has anyone had this problem? What can i do to fix?

Thanx 4 ur help

Before investigating any further:
- update your graphics card drivers
- update your sound card drivers
- maybe even update directx
- try the latest version of VLC (0.7.1)

I also get the Blue Screen of Death when running VLC on my Sony Vaio laptop with Rage Mobility. It's not the only issue I've had with this Sony being compatible with things. I'm reinstalling directx9.0b, but I think everything is already as up-to-date as possible. Sony does not actively provide help for older models like my pcg-fx210, as far as keeping UPDATED drivers on their site, and ATI does not provide updated drivers for Rage MOBILITY, leaving it in the hands of Sony to do that, which they don't... if reinstalling all drivers does not work, we vaio users may be out of luck!

I put together a computer in my living room to watch movies off the PC, VLC plays them the smoothest but has random BSOD, I have installed DivX, XVid, Tsunami Filter pack but this did not help, when I try to play a movie with mplayerc.exe it's all jumpy, DivX player hardly can play some movies too. Is the BSOD problem known yet? Thanks, if you need an error code let me know I will try to get it with my digital camera.

BSOD == issue with drivers (triggered by VLC, but that is irrelevent, any application could trigger it in theory)
Don't use PMs for support questions.
