Audio stuttering in several file types after 2.0.1 upgrade

Postby suchen » 18 Apr 2012 23:15

I have been using VLC for years now and love your software. Thank you for making it freely available for private use! I have had no issues until the latest update to 2.0.1 after which the audio in .mp3, .mp4, and .avi formats (only ones I've tested so far) is stuttering. Logfile shows the following in all cases:

Code: Select all

main warning: audio output out of sync, adjusting dates (65110 us) main warning: not synchronized (65111 us), resampling main warning: buffer way too late (207392), dropping buffer main warning: buffer way too late (182475), dropping buffer main warning: audio output out of sync, adjusting dates (63043 us) main warning: not synchronized (63044 us), resampling main warning: buffer way too late (198506), dropping buffer main warning: buffer way too late (182581), dropping buffer main warning: audio output out of sync, adjusting dates (65117 us) main warning: not synchronized (65118 us), resampling main warning: buffer way too late (207129), dropping buffer main warning: buffer way too late (181007), dropping buffer main warning: audio output out of sync, adjusting dates (73489 us) main warning: not synchronized (73489 us), resampling main warning: buffer way too late (202187), dropping buffer main warning: buffer way too late (180770), dropping buffer
I tried increasing the cache to 1000 ms and beyond, but this only slightly masks the problem.

My setup is Asus G73JW laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium x64, Intel i7 740qm processor, nVidia GTX460m video card, 8 gigs RAM. Thanks for taking a look at my problem.

As a small update, for audio only files like music I have also been getting

Code: Select all

mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad main_data_begin pointer

Does it help if you enable/disable equalizer?

No, that did not work. Default for equalizer was off so I switched it to on and restarted VLC. Same error messages. Then I enabled "2 pass", restarted, and got the same error messages.

*edit* I have also now tried setting the SRC resampler to Zero Order Hold with no luck. I enabled/disabled Time Stretching Audio to no avail.

Wow, looks like overclocking was the issue in my case. I temporarily restored my cpu and gpu clocks to their default states. Why is overclocking an issue for VLC, and what steps can I take (besides removing the overclock) to resolve the issue?

Because timing code of VLC core has some issues.

I also tried the (experimental) 64 bit version of vlc but the issue is still there.
Will it be fixed?

I have the same Problem.
I have also overclocking active. Standard 2,8GHz; Overclockt to 3,1GHz.
If I go back to the standard CPU settings the error almost disappears. In 10 minutes it stuttered only one moment. Bevor it stuttered ever 10 sekonds.

When this error will be fixed?

Meanwhile I will go back to version 1.1.11, where I have no Problems.
