Sound distorted

Postby Cal » 05 Apr 2012 16:53

I had not updated VLC for a while and decided to update to VLC 2.0.1.
I had no problems with the previous versions, but since I installed 2.0.1 the sound is somewhat distorted. This is especially clear when music is playing, and more so in the parts with the lower notes/bass.
I have tried to remove VLC and install it again. I have also tried to install a previous version, as my old version of the player worked fine, but the problem is now with all the versions that I install.
I have tried with different types of files and the problem is still there. When I play the same files with other player, I do not have the same problem.
I'm using Windows 7, 64-bit.
I hope someone can help me with this problem as I think that the VLC is the best media player.

Keep your volume level in VLC below 145% (green yellow area) and the sound should be fine. (worked for me)

But I mean for real. All the same. Now this problem jumped to all previous vlc versions. I dont know but we need to have some soliutions. I guess many more users have that issue.

Its not like, ok hold your volume level below green or yellow and you'll listen music at its "finest". I like the way i like to listen and no other way. There must be really fixes.

The same OS, 64bit lol

I had the same issue with Win7 x64 immediately after upgrading to 2.0.1. The distortion will disappear if you enable the equalizer. Go to Tools --> Effects and Filters --> Audio Effects --> Graphic Equalizer --> Check Enable. All should be well now.

Thank you. That seemed to do the trick.

Same problem here. When i increase volume above 100% it starts geting more and more distorted. How can i at least limit my volume to 100%?

Force the WaveOut output or get a contemporary VLC 2.1 preversions to limit to 100%.

By the way, distortion is in no way new to VLC 2.0. It happens all the same with VLC 1.1. If you don't believe me set VLC 2.0 at 126% and VLC 1.1 200% and compare the speaker output with an oscilloscope: it's identical and identically distorted.
