Setting Global Hotkeys in 2.0.1

Postby WandersFar » 02 Apr 2012 01:12

I recently upgraded, and now I'm having trouble setting global hotkeys.

Admittedly, I haven't done this in a while, but I seem to remember the process was 1. click the global hotkey you wanted to set 2. hit the key you want to assign to that function 3. click apply 4. click save, right?

Well, now I don't see the apply button. So ignoring that step, when I click save and then quit and restart VLC, the global hotkey is shown as changed in the preferences window, however, when I hit the key in question, the function I assigned to it does not work.

Has the procedure changed for this version? What am I doing wrong?

ETA: I'm running the portable apps version, if that makes any difference. Also, is there a way to assign global hotkeys without going through the gui? Like, is there a config file I can just edit somewhere?

Thanks for any assistance.

Config file is %appdata%\vlc\vlcrc

You can set hotkeys by double clicking the section, then it asks about the key you want to use.

Thanks for the filename.

For anyone else using the portable version, vlcrc can be found in VLC\Data\Settings

I was able to get my global hotkey to work by just assigning it to a different key. VLC wouldn't recognize F12 for some reason, so I switched it over to F1 and it worked. Go figure.
