Postby guywire » 23 Mar 2012 16:01

Use directDraw in preferences for your video output.
Can you tell me what GPU you have?

That worked for avi's and Merci, but MKV is still an unreadable screen, horizontal grey bars covering chopped up color

wait. the problem is that the preferences keeps losing the direct draw request and defaulting back to something. that is even though I hit save and hit reset preferences. it doesn't stay in that mode.

I got the preference to stay, so I am good. almost everything I have seems to open, except an 8gig x 264 that opens, goes good for a while, pixilates, and then works again for a moment. That may be my old time computer ( late 2004). Thanks for your help and I hope youre not mad that I tried to say a french word. I'm actually going to Paris in a month. keep on,

Quit all VLC. Start VLC. Reset preferences. Change to DirectDraw. Save and quit VLC.

Now, it should be ok.

Do you happen to know the graphic card in this machine?
