Use Media -> Convert/Save in that case.

Use Media -> Convert/Save in that case.
what? no , i don't want videos to different type, I want it to output other than ".asf" in the first place.
I have .avi files I want to split, I want them to stay .avi files.
that .asf configuration is specified somewhere in the preferences, i saw it once, just can't find it now.

Record saves the same format as input is by default. And if you want to split .avi, use Virtualdub or AVIdemux. Much better tools for the job.
