latest versions don't work well with some older mpeg/pva's

Postby jo86V2r » 08 Dec 2011 18:56

Hi there,

First post here.

I'm noticing that the latest vlc player versions don't work quite well with some older video clips (4-5 years old mpeg/pva's) anymore. These clips worked well with the older vlc versions. I'm running Windows 7 32-bit.

What I'm seeing (w/ v1.1.11):

- frozen mpeg videos (player bar would look like it's fast-forwarding)
- stuttering mpeg videos
- cut-up audio's in some pva clips (video plays fine)
- tried changing audio out to DirectX, Win32 waveOut and Simple DirectMedia Layer. Didn't make any difference on the pva audio problems.

I can try fixing the clips in VideoReDo (fixed a few mpeg's already), but don't really want to go thru' all that tedious work on all the older clips.

Thx.

PS: I was running Windows XP Professional when the older video clips were playing fine w/ the older vlc player versions. Have not tried reinstalling XP to test against the newer vlc player versions.

OS version shouldn't really matter to MPEG-1/2 playback. But VLC version change can have an effect to that. Usually the problematic files are badly muxed. With VLC you can also try FFMpeg demuxers in case they work better
Tools -> Preferences (Show settings: All) Input / Codecs -> Demuxers, and the dropdown menu is there. (Save and restart VLC after change)
