Xvidcore.dll not found

Postby PlayerOne » 15 Jul 2008 01:39

When ever i go to where all my .avi videos are i get an error that says xvidcore.dll not found, and it seems to pop up for every video there.
How do i fix this?

That doesn't sound like a VLC related issue since VLC doesn't make use of a xvidcore.dll. Try deleting VLC's preferences and cache files or reinstalling VLC. AVI files might be associated with another program - if you want them to be associated with VLC when installing change the file associations in the installer wizard etc.

Sounds like explorer trying to create thumbnails, but failing due to a codec problem (probably a botched uninstall of xvid).

I also have the problem and like Saribro said, its because of the explorer trying to create a thumbnail of the videofile. I don't know exactly how to fix it without installing xvid (yet). But it made me think, why deos VLC not create thumbnails?

Media players don't create thumbnails. DirectShow decoders do. (Also VLC doesn't include or use DirectShow decoders)

Remove all Xvidcore.dll entries from registry.
