"Skinned"

Postby hazel » 21 Nov 2011 12:00

Before I call back the technician who worked on my computer, may I please ask one question? I suspect he removed something he should not have but want to be sure. My Start button always revealed "VLC media player". It now says "VLC media player skinned". What does that change mean? Should I be concerned? Thank you.

It is different shortcut. VLC media player launches VLC with default QT4 UI http://images1.videolan.org/vlc/screens ... 1_w7_2.jpg . skinned uses skinned user interface http://www.videolan.org/vlc/skins.php

I am sorry. I'm not sure I understand. Someone sends me a recorded message and VLC opens it so I can listen. it then puts it in My Documents for future listening again. VLC is all that would ever open what he sends via Audacity. So, do I now have the wrong thing?

Thank you for patience. Meanwhile I'll check out the URL references. Maybe those will enlighten me.

I am sorry but I am left as confused as ever. All those sites talk about (and show) is "skins" which mean nothing to me. May I please try again?

I have a friend who occasionally sends me quotations and poems via his Audacity. My computer would not open them until someone told me to download VLC Media Player. Saturday, a computer technician was working on my machine. He removed something called "Real" which had an address of .ogg. I protested because I knew that .ogg is part of VLC but he thought not. Now, I seem to have VLC Media Player skinned.

Simple question: In order to continue opening these little recordings that are sent to me, should I call the man back out here and ask him to restore the simple VLC Media Player minus "skinned".

Thank you for advice here. I am not a computer expert; not even a computer amateur. I only need something set up so I can use it.

Your explanation doesn't really make sense.

You can use both default VLC interface and the skinned interface to play those files. Skinned is just different shortcut. It doesn't matter if it says skinned or not.

Thank you. That is what I wanted to hear. I'm sorry I don't make sense. Most of what I try to say and know about computers does not make sense. I just deal with it.

Right click on the skinned shortcut and delete it :D
