Is there any news regarding new release VLC 1.2.x?
Freeze will happen during this weekend, so 1.2.x might arrive in October/November.

So it's supposed that 1.2.x will parse the time for files which have more than one multiplexed program in each .ts file.

If that is right I'm really looking forward for this new release arriving in October/November.

Btw, what about the second question regarding subtitles demuxing?

Thanks!

There is a patch on the mailing list for TS time, that might come for VLC 1.2

Okay, so I may be an idiot here, but I've searched everywhere and can't figure it out on my own. Can someone please tell me exactly how I go about changing the demux setting from default to the FFmpeg one?

Tools -> Preferences (Show settings: All) Input / Codecs -> Demuxers, and the dropdown menu is there.

Hi

I tried setting the demux module to FFMpeg but VLC (1.1.11) errors out with the log:

main error: no suitable demux module for `file/avcodec://M:\test.rec'

The .rec file plays fine with decoder = Default. Why is this?

Because this is a different demuxer.

Ok, colour me confused.
I was just following the advice below to play .rec files and was puzzled as to why it didn't work for me. Guess I'm missing something obvious. :(
Workaround

Change the demuxer setting from "default" to "FFmpeg demuxer"

Then VLC shows the correct times for most of my TS and M2TS files. (within a few seconds of what MPC gives)

It works for MPEG2 and H.264 content.

Seeking with the keyboard also works.

The workaround is for TS length, not for REC playback.

Ok, I thought that the .rec format was virtually the same as a .ts file, with a slightly different header and so that the demux of video would be the same.

Looks like it's not that simple.

I too have this problem with DVBT TS files.
If I (edit/demux and) re-multiplex them eg. using DVD Author then the resulting VOB files work fine and display time information correctly.

This is rather curious as VOBs as just TS files.
Obviously VLC understands the DVD specification time codes.

Ref ".rec" files. These are just DVBT TS with an added header (from Topfield PVR).
The problem here is that different Codecs have different strategies for deciding if the file is valid, and how far to search the input for a valid TS packet.
Some codecs "take one look" and give up if the first 188 bytes don't make sense.
Others (eg. designed to handle broadcast streams which may contain dropouts / corrupt packets) are more robust. These will look further for valid data, may ignore the unexpected extra header and will start with the first valid packet.

Nope. VOBs are program stream (PS).

VLC 1.2.0 has TS timecode support.

Sorry - my mistake. I should have double-checked what I wrote.

.REC files are TS (from DVB-T).

Glad to hear about the enhancement for VLC 1.2.

I have a MPEG-TS that plays both the video and audio perfectly using the MPEG Transport Stream demuxer...but there is no elapsed time. I took the advice of this thread and switched VLC to use the FFmpeg demuxer, so now the audio and elapsed time work perfectly but there is no video. Looking at the Media Information->Statistics, the video Decoded, Displayed and Lost are all 0.

I compared the message logs using the FFMpeg demuxer and the MPEG Transport Stream demuxer. The following are debug lines that were displayed by the MPEG-TS demuxer but not the FFMpeg demuxer:

Code: Select all

avcodec debug: using direct rendering main debug: End of video preroll main debug: Received first picture main debug: Post-processing available main debug: Detected interlaced video main debug: deinterlace 0, mode blend, is_needed 1 main warning: vlc_object_find_name(postproc) is not safe! freetype debug: using fontsize: 30 main debug: looking for video blending module: 1 candidate blend debug: chroma: YUVA -> I420 main debug: using video blending module "blend" main debug: TIMER module_need() : 0.000 ms - Total 0.000 ms / 1 intvls (Avg 0.000 ms)
I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

This advise is wrong and stupid. Use normal demuxer and VLC 2.0

That would be great but I don't see VLC 2.0 available for windows yet...and unfortunately my project requires windows.

If you have a link to a windows version of VLC 2.0 I would be more than willing to test it.

Hi all,

First of all thanks for the release of version 2.0 the issues I got while playing .ts files with some programs multiplexed in it has been fixed at least for files with less than 8 programs per file. The issue I got now is that new version does not show EPG Guide information of those files and previous version was doing it with no issues.

Can you give me a clue of what could be happening?

Many thanks!

Does Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) complain something about EPG?

Does not complain about EPG. The only message I got is on the EPG page " NO EPG Data Available". Is weird since previous version 1.1.11 was showing it properly with the same files. Any guess?

Most likely a code change caused that. Is there are short sample file you could share to us?
