Newest vlc 1.1.10 crashes regularly when playing.mpg files

First i would like to thank everyone who have made contributions to vlc project... I have been using it for years on windows and linux os systems and never needed to use any other player. Thank you for freeing me from codec hell.

Never had any trouble until now. I have mythtv setup that records shows from dvb-t and lately i have experienced a lot of crashes when viewing .mpg recorded with myhtv. I tested with my laptop with older version of vlc and it didn't crash, but when i upgraded my laptops vlc it also started to crash in similar way as vlc in my desktop.

I cut the part that crashes to its own .mpg file to avoid any legal trouble here is the link http://users.tkk.fi/~oalapeij/ it is the "vlccrash" file.

edit forgot to mention: OS: Windows 7 and windows vista both 64 bit versions. Other has amd (3870x2) and other nvidia (425 mobile) gfx card. 8 and 4gb of memmory.

Remuxing the MPG files should fix the issues. Other option is to try with

vlc --codec ffmpeg file.mpg

which might work a bit better.

Yeah remuxing might work, but i haven't gotten mythtv to do that for me and doing that manually to every show i record is not something i really wan't to do.i think there are more than 200 episodes/movies stored and over 700 has been recorded since january.

tried also from (in cmd) vlc.exe --codec ffmpeg c:\location\file.mpg but it didn't help... does it require some external codec? i haven't installed any codecs. I have only the ones that come with windows or are installed with out my knowledge (with games etc).

I think i will just uninstall 1.1.10 and reinstall 1.1.09 (or what ever the previous one was) since that worked like a charm. Thanks for reading and sorry when i posted i didn't see there was already at least one thread were someone had problems with .mpg files. Don't know if it is the same problem, but likely.

It doesn't require anything extra. VLC has everything build-in.

I'm also having problems playing .mpg files recorded with mythtv. I am using mythtv 0.24.1. A sample file link is http://www.mediafire.com/file/t6agbr4b6 ... amming.mpg

I have gotten it to work with vlc 1.0.2 but not with vlc 1.0.3 or anything newer. Something must have changed from 1.0.2 to 1.0.3.

Is there nothing I can do but remux the files?

Have you tested with VLC 1.2.0 nightly builds?

Yes, I just tested that file with vlc-1.2.0-pre1-20111117-0108-win32.exe and got the same result. The video zips past in 2 seconds.

1.0.2 plays it correctly.

I just used 0.7 and it played fine.... I wonder why the newer versions have trouble with this??

I created one yesterday. [VLC] #5551: MPG files created with mythtv-0.24.1 will not play in latest nightly build vlc-1.2.0-pre1-20111117-0108-win32
