MKV Playback Problem!

Postby Geez » 07 Jul 2009 10:52

I got a .mkv movie file with the resolution:
1920X1080
At first it works fine, but after like 1:30 min it jumps back to the beginning.
I converted it to another filetype and it playes the whole video, but in horrible quality.
My question is, why it jumps to the beginning and if i can stop that?
Because if i convert it it has no subs anymore.
Thanks in advance!

Tools -> Messages... (set Verbosity to 2) shows some warnings/errors when jump happens? And you tried with VLC 1.0.0 ?

I've got the same problem. I'm using 1.0.0, I'm not sure what the resolution is but when I try to play some mkv files it gets to where the next chapter is set then starts back at the beginning and has no sound. For specific examples: just about any of Chihiro's Asura Cryin. I used episode 12 for the message thing, played it from being stopped to shortly after it started back at the beginning and hit stop. If you want the whole file http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2CQG6ZLJ (since I don't see an attach option here) other wise the part that seemed to be for right as it happened is

The audio preroll message just continues to spam if you leave it playing. I don't know what it is about their files but I just went and tried several other mkv files and they all seem to work fine, so I think its most likely something to do with how they set up their chapters since its 1:30 for ep 12 but ep 11 is at 0:40. Both of those times are when the chapter change is set for those videos. vlc media player seems to not like Chihiro or vice versa  lol

Your file use ordered chapters. This problem is fixed in vlc 1.2 you can get it as nightly builds at http://nightlies.videolan.org/

If you don't want to upgrade your vlc you can disable ordered chapters in tools->preferences, show settings = all, input/codecs->demuxer->matroska then uncheck ordered chapters save and restart vlc. But don't forget to erase your preferences when 1.2 is out.

The best way (at least for us) is of course to upgrade to 1.2 and give us feedback to help improve vlc (and you won't have big ugly macroblocks at chapter change.)
