When i play ANY .MKV video in the player the video FLASHES on the screen in little grey boxes. I know there is nothing wrong with the file as it plays fine in DIVX player.
But DIVX player is a memory HOG and i want to play it in VLC how do i fix this problem?

Can you share the logs ? tools->messages verbosity to 2 and then start the playback
