Would you elaborate on the freetype, please?
Freetype is the font rendering engine used in VLC. Since OSD volume text also uses that, it explains why the volume doesn't show but pause+play show since they pause+play are image files, not text.
Do you think it would it make any difference to the volume display if settings were changed under one of the following?

Subtitles & OSD- Default encoding

Or

"You can then select the subtitles file by clicking the Browse button. You can also set a few options like character encoding, alignment and size."

Encoding shouldn't really matter (unless it is a very strange bug), since volume text doesn't use any super special chars.

I doubt it but it's too late to check now because I just installed 1.2.0 and it is BEYOND GREAT! I'm so happy! The problem with the volume text display has been solved with this build! I want to jump up and down for joy! I like what's been done with the playlist right-click menu too, and the new GUI is a nice change. Now if only I could get a justin.tv stream to play I'd be set...

Overall, I love 1.2.0 but I've noticed a few minor glitches that become very annoying. Is there any place designated where users can go to post these annoyances? Having said that, I really like the pause-while-minimized feature (don't tell me this is a glitch) and what's been done with the volume scaling. ::two thumbs up::

You can post 1.2.0 issues to this forum if you see them while using VLC under Windows.
