Media Center?

Postby ETMegabyte » 26 Sep 2011 10:56

I have a computer set up right now as a sorta media-center PC. It's an older machine, and was just kinda thrown together so I could watch videos and stuff on my HDTV in the family room... It works for what it is, but in addition to being too slow to do some stuff well (play hd video, etc), one of my biggest problems is being able to navigate from the couch (windows explorer is not designed to be used from 20 feet away, no matter how big the screen is)...

However, sometime very soon I'll be picking up the hardware to build a new machine designed for this purpose. It will probably run some flavor of Windows 7 x64. But I'd like to set it up so that it can be navigated from the couch. I currently use VLC for all non-web-browser based video and audio playback, and I'd like to continue to do so, but I've not heard of any type of front-end for a media center PC that uses VLC as it's backend...

Does something like this exist? Where would I even start to look for more info?

Use VLC web interface if you want more couch controllable user interface.
