VLC 1.1.11 freezes, with high CPU usage

Postby acuvic » 07 Aug 2011 01:45

Hi, I'd like to report that on a certain MKV (avi) file, VLC 1.1.11 freezes, with high CPU usage (80% - 99%).

It happens at about 1/4 of the way along the way, at 11m47s of a 1h44m47s long video and is totally repeatable.

The file resides on a hard disk from a friend's media collection.

To recover, I use the control/alt/delete to summon the task manager and kill the VLC process. If it is of any help, I can provide access to the 414 Mb file by uploading to a file repository and provide a link.

I am going to try the file out with other media players now.

VLC installed on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, CPU: AMD Athlon 2+GHz. 2GB RAM. Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essential

Just like to add that on BS Player, the mkv file also freezes at 11m47s but recovers and continues play after jumping 20 seconds. So there IS a problem with the file but a better recovery from the error by BS Player .....

..probably corrupt video/audio stream in the file.
Does [Tools > Messages (set Verbose to '2')] bring anything at 11m47s?

Remuxing with MKVtoolnix (mkvmerge GUI in that package) might fix the file.
