Help about RC and Telnet

Postby Diavoletto » 06 Aug 2011 23:42

Goodmorning all,
i'm actually using vlc version 1.1.1 [portable, the one that don't need installation] and i'm trying to command it under command-line [in a project write in vbscript].
I have read that vlc can be controlled in two interfaces: RC one and Telnet one. During some test i was able to make two command line for open vlc:
A]This one is using telent interface: vlc --quiet --telnet-host 127.0.0.1 --telnet-port 1234 --telnet-password= --intf telnet
with this solution vlc open actually a port and using the command line: telnet 127.0.0.1 1234 , a new window open up asking the password i just press enter and it says wellcome master but i can't write anything
B]This one is using rc interface: vlc --quiet --rc-quiet --rc-host=127.0.0.1:1234 --intf rc
with this solution vlc open but is invisible there is no window an also no icon in tray, and also i don't know how to send commands, i have try using telnet but nothing happen
Both should be controlled under Vbscript, but isn't a problem since i know how to send a cmd command via vbscript; some one could give me an hand please? it would be apreciated i can't continue my project if i don't find a solution

Oldrc might work better -I oldrc

and if you remove --rc-quiet, there should be window for it.

thanks you so much! now a window show but i have the same problem as Telnet, i can't wrtie commands it's like locked i see:
Remote control interface inzialized, type 'help' for help.
and the pointer for write but i can't write, and also if i hide the window with --rc-quiet how i can send commands?

update: Now works :D , i think the problem was -i rc, now i can telnet also with Rc interface, i got last question :
What is the difference between RC interface and Telnet interface?
I mean both can be controlled via telnet so what's the difference? :?:

There won't be much difference in upcoming builds (they are merged)

that's interesting, but i see the topic is made on march [if i 'm not wrong] it's already aviable or will be from the next update? [next version of the last one, 1.1.11]
I have also read talking about lua script, we will still be able to command vlc from [for example] vbscript?

All new features are put into VLC 1.2.0 which will be released at some point.

LUA script support is build-in into VLC. e.g. YouTube parsing is done via LUA scripts.

And yes, you can command VLC from any script language.
