"save configuration"-uninstalling not save toolbar customize

Postby Chrisi22 » 28 Jul 2011 20:55

This regards uninstall 1.1.10 & upgrade to 1.1.11 in Vista hm prem x64.

Does choosing to "save configuration (or preferences)" during uninstall, then choosing to leave old configuration in place when installing new version (paraphrasing), not SAVE customizations made in the toolbars editor? Like adding extra buttons, position of buttons?

I chose not to delete configuration file when uninstalling & same when installing 1.1.11 - leave / use old configuration file. It didn't save any of the toolbars customizations I'd made before upgrading.

I do see the vlc-qt-interface.ini file's last modified date was prior to date I installed 1.1.11, so it didn't overwrite it - completely - or change it so "last modified" date changed. Maybe toolbars customizations aren't stored in vlc-qt-interface.ini? Or these customizations aren't saved when upgrading to new versions?

Thanks.

Hi Chrisi22,

I reported the same problem a few days ago but the answer was quite unsatisfactory.
My workaround was to backup the 'vlc-qt-interface.ini' -> section [ToolbarProfiles]. (You can edit the file with e.g. notepad.)
The only important thing is to adjust the size value if you copy & paste your profiles to the new vlc-qt-interface.ini,
and you have to make sure that the profile # is not used more than once.

Maybe this helps a bit.... :?:

Thanks madmetz,

It seems very odd that "saving the configuration" file saved most settings from prior installation, but left a few out. All it had to do was use the old vlc-qt-interface.ini file. The toolbars & the editor seem same as prior version, so doesn't appear they had to discard that part of the config file on purpose.
The only important thing is to adjust the size value if you copy & paste your profiles to the new vlc-qt-interface.ini
Not sure I follow - where / what is the "size value" you mean?

I didn't manually save changes to a profile I named. So I assume it auto saved them in ProfileName=Custom 1, shown below.

Is the "size value" you mean, the "size= 6" value (for 6 profiles?)? I've never seen profile files given a "size" before. Usually, the profiles are just numbered (as they are here) & that seems sufficient for most apps.
1\value="0|64;39;64;38;65;|0-2;64;3;1;4;64;7;10;9;64-4;20;19;64-4;37;65;35-4;|12;11;13;14;|5-1;33;6-1;|0-2;64;3;1;4;64;37;64;38;64;8;65;35-4;34;"

The size value is the line that says: size= (in your case 6)

1\value="0|64;39;64;38;65;|0-2;64;3;1;4;64;7;10;9;64-4;20;19;64-4;37;65;35-4;|12;11;13;14;|5-1;33;6-1;|0-2;64;3;1;4;64;37;64;38;64;8;65;35-4;34;"
2\value="1|64;39-1;64;38;|2-1;32-4;0-5;1-5;32-5;3-5;5-5;6-5;4-5;32-5;10-1;64-1;35-1;65;|12-1;11-1;13-1;14-1;|33;37-4;|0-5;1-5;32-1;1-5;5-1;6-1;4-5;32-1;12-5;11-1;65;34-4;35-1;"

To make it more clear I will sort your entries for you.....

[ToolbarProfiles]
1\profilename=Modern Style
1\value="0|64;39;64;38;65;|0-2;64;3;1;4;64;7;10;9;64-4;20;19;64-4;37;65;35-4;|12;11;13;14;|5-1;33;6-1;|0-2;64;3;1;4;64;37;64;38;64;8;65;35-4;34;"
2\profilename=Classic Style
2\value="1|64;39-1;64;38;|2-1;32-4;0-5;1-5;32-5;3-5;5-5;6-5;4-5;32-5;10-1;64-1;35-1;65;|12-1;11-1;13-1;14-1;|33;37-4;|0-5;1-5;32-1;1-5;5-1;6-1;4-5;32-1;12-5;11-1;65;34-4;35-1;"
3\profilename=Minimalist Style
3\value="0|64;65;|0-7;64;3-1;1-5;4-1;64;12-5;64-5;37-5;38-5;64-4;10-1;65;36-4;|11-5;13-5;14-5;|5-1;33;6-1;|0-5;64;3-5;1-5;4-5;64;12-5;65;34-4;35-1;"
4\profilename=One-Liner Style
4\value="0|64;38;65;|0-4;64;3;1;4;64;7;10;9;64-4;39;64-4;37;65;36-4;|12;11;14;13;|5-1;33;6-1;|0-2;64;3;1;4;64;37;64;38;64;8;65;35-4;34;"
5\profilename=Simplest Style
5\value="0||36-4;65-4;0-7;4-5;1-5;65-4;7-5;|12-4;11;13;||36-4;65-4;0-5;4-5;1-5;65;8-5;"
6\ProfileName=Custom 1
6\Value="0|64;38;65;|0-4;64;3;1;4;64;7;10;9;64-4;39;64-4;37;65;35-4;|12;11;14;13;|5-1;33;6-1;|0-2;64;3;1;5-4;6-4;4;64;37;64;38;64;8;65;34;"
size=6

As you can see, you have 6 profiles and yours is number 6.
So I assume it auto saved them in ProfileName=Custom 1
That's correct....
You can change the name in the file at any time but do not use it more than once.
In addition to that you should not save a changed profile under the same name because there is still a bug on this function.
If you do so you have two different profiles with the same name, so choose a new name and delete the 'old' profile after you saved the new one.

I hope this will solve your problem :)

Re: "save configuration"-uninstalling not save toolbar custo

Thanks again. Maybe I'm a bit slow (definite possibility), but if I understand your comments, some of VLC's behavior for creating / naming / saving profiles is diff than many apps.
You can change the name in the file at any time but do not use it more than once.
You mean change the name (in my case) of Profile "Custom 1?" But don't change the name of it more than once?
Even if I make other profile edits & decide it should be called Billy Bob 2?
In addition to that you should not save a changed profile under the same name because there is still a bug on this function.
This I'm not sure of. Under the "same name" as what? I didn't give it a name at all. In the .ini file, it calls it "Custom 1," so VLC realized there were customizations from default & saved it under this name. It didn't force me to give it a custom name.
If you do so you have two different profiles with the same name, so choose a new name and delete the 'old' profile after you saved the new one.
I assume you mean if I made changes from default, saved them under MyProfile 1, I should not make further edits to MyProfile 1 (assuming that's the one in use), & save it again under MyProfile 1? If that's what you mean & if it creates 2 separate profiles w/ same name, that IS as bug.

So what about this "Custom 1" profile it automatically created? If I make further changes, save it under a diff name - each & every time I make any tiny change?

Thanks.
