why Drag and Drop doesn't work :' ?

Postby nico0Las » 27 Aug 2009 20:09

Hello all,

I'm using the last version of VLC 1.0.1 on Windows 7 (final) but i can't drag and drop any file to the VLC window.. does anyone could help me ?
I don't think this is because of UAC, because i didn't had this problem on Vista (and the UAC was not deactivated).

I'm using VLC.exe with administrator privilege
"run this program as an administrator"

and I also tried to use compatibility mode Vista and XP, it doesn't solve the problem.

Thanks for your help !

Nicolas

Thing is, I run VLC at the command-line. Or with the "1" special preset function key on my keyboard. I don't run it with a shortcut. Regardless, I just edited the properties for the actual VLC.exe and set it to both. My drag-drops still don't work. And it's not all of the time, just most of the time.

I don't have drag drop problems with anything other than playing videos. It's windows 7. I upgraded this same computer from XP and didn't have the problem before.

It's a definite issue that, apparently, is not being addressed.

Okay - if I click the VLC.exe (that i have UNchecked for run as administrator), I can drag files in.

If I run it from my command-line (which is always at administrator level), I can't drag files in.

"start" has an /elevated option to start programs elevated - but there doesn't seem to be an option to run a program at a non-elevated status.

So what - I can't actually USE vlc anymore? I have a "dinner.bat" script I run that opens up several folders and opens up vlc, so i can drag several things in to watch while I eat. Now I have to add an extra step because VLC won't accept files dragged from a different level? Is this something that can be fixed? Having to do at least 3 extra steps (find VLC in the opened folder, click it, close the folder afterward) every time I use VLC is a recipe for me to run into Media Player Classic's arms... :/

I found a solution. Start the program with Hstart (Hidden Start), a 3rd party improved start.exe - it has a /NONELEVATED parameter (UNlike windows's start), which fixes this problem.

Begs the question though -- why can't you drag files into an elevated VLC player? Especially if you're already in an Administrator-level account?
