when vlc isn't playing anything can i display something besides a traffic cone?

Not easily, since otherwise scammers would change the logo all the time.

thanks for the reply, how do you change it? i don't wanna change the icon on the system tray just the video screen when you're not playing anything like leaving it blank or a solid color like black

You have to build new VLC version with changed icon AFAIK. (some resource editor tool might also work, but I haven't tested)

builidng a new version of vlc just to change the icon. damn i guess i'll just keep the cone until it's finally an option. thanks again.
