Bug? VLC crashes when using projectM and maximizing window

Postby Leon-B » 05 Jul 2011 23:08

Hello!

Today I experimented a little bit with the projectM visualisation. (using VLC 1.1.10 (portable edition) on Win XP)
When I try to switch to fullscreen or maximizing the window, VLC motstly hangs and crashes.

Maybe it's a problem with the portable version or there's a nasty bug in VLC or the projectM-implementation.

Probably some of you also have this issue.

Regards,
Leon

Use VLC 1.2 and try.

Here are my results after experimenting with several builds and having fun with Windows task manager: :?

VLC 1.1.10 and VLC 1.1.11 normaly are not freezing when "only" maximizing window, but when the next file from playlist is loaded or file is auto-repeating.
The issue does not occur in "normal" window mode (not maximized), but visualisation is not very smooth when switching to next song,... (Short black/white flashing)
VLC 1.2.0 seems to be a little bit more stable but also freezes in the same cases.
The same issue occurs when you try to resize the "normal" window after auto-repeat or switching to another file.

I have no idea what could be the reason for that.
Am I the only one with that problem or is it reproducable?

No issue here with VLC 1.1.10 on XP (at work :p), i played with the window size and the playlist (audio files), no crash, even when vlc switched to the next file while i was resizing it.

What do you mean by fullscreen ? vlc can't go fullscreen with projectm.

It might be an opengl driver issue, i had random freezes when i was still on XP at home, and it started after an amd catalyst driver update. Now i'm on win7 at home, it works perfectly. But that's with my own app which use libvlc, i don't know about vlc itself.

When using ProjectM, F11 (for Fullscreen) works.

Could it be possible that I did something wrong with the preset samples?

Ah, i didn't know F11, but it's not the true vout fullscreen, just interface fullscreen.

it's also possible you are using presets which are unstable with projectm

I used some presets from the projectM Sourceforge site (http://sourceforge.net/projects/project ... s-samples/), but I don't know if they are tested on compatibility...
