audio device problems

Postby stekun » 06 May 2011 10:16

Hi

I have got a problem with my audio device in vlc player. I have connected my pc with a hdmi cable and also through another connection with a toslink cable to my receiver. When i play a movie that has dts from the pc and select the spdif in audio device it says on my tv , input dts sound
But when i select 5.1 in audio device and use the hdmi connection it says pcm sound 2.0. I would like to have dts also through my hdmi cable. It supports dts so it must be possible. But i dont know how to do it
Can anyone help me with this?

When you have selected HDMI, does it give SPDIF option in VLC?

yes i can choose to go for spdif.
but spdif doenst supports f.e dts hd and my hdmi connection (through my x fi soundcard) does. so i want to be able to choose the hdmi connection above the spdif to output audio to my receiver.
when i set the audio device to 5.1 the tv says it is multichannel sound. and not dts.
how can i solve this?

thanks for the help btw

VLC doesn't support DTS HD pass-through. And VLC cannot decode DTS HD, only core of it.

It might require some additional code. It should work if you select 5.1 from VLC, then VLC decodes it and sends forward uncompressed audio.
