When I launch a video it scales. How do I launch it in original size? It is an annoyance to deselect scale.

VLC should play video in original size. Resetting VLC settings should help if it doesn't do that.

it can, however, auto scale down if the video does not fit in the screen (ie video is too large and the screen too small).

The video is explained to fix max expanded screen. I want it to start in the original size smaller mode. I need to press 'o' to re-size it to the smaller original size or right click video -> Scale to fix it.

did you try to reset vlc settings as VLC_Help told you ?

Yes ... I have reset Preferences and closed player. Still launches video in scaled mode. When the video launches the scale is checked under video.

Fixed it.

Tools -> Preferences -> select all for Show settings -> Video

Deselect "Video Auto Scaling" check box
