Hot keys problem

Postby Bellzemos » 02 Apr 2011 20:02

Hi! First of all: thank you for this great free Media Player, I love it! I have a problem tho: I'd like to set my "left arrow" key to do a very short backward jump but it doesn't work. Forward does, backward doesn't. How can I fix it?

It doesn't bind itself to that key or it doesn't do anything?

It writes "Left" but it doesn't work in the program. When I try to do it again it says that this key is already set for very short backwards jump - weird. Can you reproduce the problem? I'm using the latest version of VLC in Windows 7 x64.

And you removed the earlier Navigate left bind?

I did the same as I did for forward (hot key: right). Can you reproduce the problem? If not I think I will install the older 1.0.5 version, it works well on my old PC.

It works fine in here. Just make sure you don't have multiple binds for same hotkey.

Thank you, I solved the problem. But I need some help with the installaton options please:

Mozilla plugin (I already have Adobe Flash Player plugin installed, so do I need this one too?)

ActiveX plugin (What is this one for, do I have to install it?)

Discs Playback (Will I be able to watch DVDs with VLC Media Player even if I don't check this box?)

File type associations (I would like to use VLC only for Video Files - so I only have to check Video files. But what are the "Other files"?)

Thank you!

VLC doesn't replace Adobe Flash in any way. I have no clue why people think it would.
ActiveX is for Internet Explorer.
File associations aren't needed. You can always drag&drop files or use Media -> ... to open files or discs or network locations.

Well, I tought so because I'm a newbie on this subject. If my questions are already answered somewhere, please point me to that topic/page.

If not, please tell me - should I install the Mozilla plugin (what is it for?)

If ActiveX plugin is for IE only then I won't install it because I never use IE.

I also won't check Discs Playback because I think I will be able to watch DVDs with VLC anyway. If I'm worng please correct me.

Thank you! :)

Mozilla plugin is for browsers like Firefox and Seamonkey. It allows browser to open up certain video files.

Please tell me. If it's for WMV files, so that it would actually play them in Mozilla instead of give me a choice to download them then I would really love to have this feature available. Thank you.

It should play most files VLC can play.
