Bug: framerate converted to 60Hz for playback @ 24Hz display

Postby Aszazin » 17 Feb 2011 23:31

Hello,

I have dual-display (PC monitor & HDTV)

I always set the refresh of my TV (plasma type) the same as the movie I want to play, but my PC-monitor always keeps running at 60HZ

Now when I play a movie, it always syncs on my PC-monitor and has broken playback on the TV-screen (no more smooth movements)
The only solution is using directX instead and choose Display2 to show the video. But this resets the Win7-theme to something standard as long as the movie is playing. (Not a really big deal on it's own while watching a movie, but took some time to find this too, certainly not meant to be...)

Isn't there a way to use Direct3D and let VLC sync it's output to the 2nd display, if one wishes to?

(using win7 x64, i7 930, ATI HD5770; monitor plugged in VGA, TV in HDMI)

Re: Problems syncing video to 2nd display in Direct3D mode

Anyone can help me here?

Is it possible? Or is this a bug in VLC??
The result on the 2nd screen is UnWatchable...

It can't be that you're meant to show a 24 or 25 fps source at 30fps on equipment that can play it at the native framerate...

Re: Bug: framerate got converted to 60Hz and to be run on @

I'm being annoyed by this for a month now, no reaction...

can anyone tell me this bug is noticed, and if there are any plans in fixing it???

Using DirectX instead of Direct3D switches desktop colors and layout in windows 7...
I know most users ignore this and just play 24p footage on a TV running at 60Hz, but newer displays are able to properly display the stuff (by running internally at 600Hz -> dividable by 24, 25 & 30)
Bigger displays do really bother when framerates don't match the refresh...

Now the amount of users being disturbed by it will be very small, but soon it will grow. Most people won't be able to trace where the problem is (just notice stuttering playback when using VLC), I already did that for your convenience..., don't understand the lack of any reaction on this...
