Subtitles in txt file

My question is, why in the new version (1.1.7), the program does not read strings from a file. txt?

Hello knife,
* Open Vlc (double clic on its icon)
* Menu Media => Advanced Open File => File (tab)

Then you open separately the movie and the .txt subtitle, that's it.
I tested it and it worked fine

j-b is thinking about an easier solution, as he explained at the end of the following topic :

And in case your .txt file is a real .srt file, you can rename it, as explained in the same topic, just before j-b last answer.

Not necessarily, because there are different kind of subtitles that open automatically with VLC (automatically = when you double clic on a movie file in Windows Explorer) :

* The .srt file (which is plain text as you know) which contains only one language.
* The couple .idx /.sub (which can contain several subtitles in different languages) , I use them too but they're graphical subtitles (not plain text).
* Probably other subtitles extensions (.ssa etc...) but I never tested them.

As soon as they're in the same folder than the movie, with same name, they'll open automatically, for example :
my_movie.avi
my_movie.sub
my_movie.idx

or
my_movie.avi
my_movie.srt

Just for fun, I just made this test, having 2 different kind of subtitles in the same folder !
For example, with these 4 files in same folder :

my_movie.avi
my_movie.sub
my_movie.idx
my_movie.srt

What will VLC do if you double clic on the movie file in Windows Explorer ?
What subtitle file will automatically be opened (or not) ?
Is there a priority ?

The answer is : Vlc opens automatically ALL subtitles files (having same name as the movie) found in the same folder.

In this example the idx/sub were composed of 2 different languages and the srt with a 3rd language
Then Vlc propose you automatically 3 different languages in its subtitle menu (yes !)

And Vlc selected by default the 1st language in the idx/sub file
(2nd subtitle = 2nd language in idx/sub file)
(3rd subtitle = 3rd language = the srt file...at the end)

After the update, it automatically does not read the subtitles in. txt files must be in. srt?
Subtitles are in Polish, with the same name as the movie, and in the same folder.

Yes I confirm, after downloading it.
Now Vlc 1.1.8 beta opens automatically the .txt subtitle file
