This workaround, however it looks impossible, worked also for me !!!This workaround really works for me: switch to "Fullscreen Interface F11" mode before going to "real" fullscreen.
If you can replicate the crash (so that vlc.exe closes down) and know how to use gdb, you could provide us much needed backtraces.didn't have any crash ending since F11 pressed previously
