Vlc Crashes...

Postby DozeD » 25 Jul 2010 19:33

I have just set up new Windows [xp] and have installed all programs that i had. Now, i launch Vlc and play a movie with it. It goes well with no catch ups. but when i Quit it Crashes/Freezes. I Can't move my mouse or push ALT+F4 or CTRL+ALT+DEL. All what is left is system restart. I have tested all versions of Vlc and it crashes/freezes only with Vlc. + I have noticed that this problem started after installing Audio Driver. It has never happened before. I have searched all google and vlc forums to find solution - Negative. I don't know what to do.

I have Windows Xp Sp 3
GeForce Fx 5500
9.0C directx
K-lite codec pack and all drivers installed and up to date.

Tnq, DozeD. :(

Crashing audio device driver can freeze whole system.

If you can get latest driver from http://www.realtek.com/downloads/ there, it might help.

I downloaded it and when i tried to install it, in the middle of installation, error popped up. http://www.bildites.lv/images/c2ax0rq5kpezib1azely.jpg .
Affcourse i clicked continue and installation finished.
Maybe that's causing the problem? (And driver didn't help)

That WHQL message doesn't cause any issues.

Well you can hunt different audio device drivers in case one of them would work correctly. You could also test out different audio output module

is the audio track encoded with ac3 ?
does this one also crash your system when finished playing in vlc ? (after exit/close)

http://www.kellyindustries.com/download ... _48khz.zip

the realtek audio driver seems to have a bug - also the most recent one (4.06).
or vlc does something nasty. that needs to be worked out. normally, an audio app should not be able to crash the system. so it`s most likely a driver bug....

have spent some time on this today.....

go search for wdm_a374.exe and use that, or use different sound-output channel (win32 waveout) or set hardware accelleration for sound output below "standard" in windows control panel
