VLC 1.1.5 choppy, stuttering and unstable

Postby mkaz » 04 Dec 2010 11:43

After upgrading from VLC 1.1.4 to VLC 1.1.5, it is impossible to view any kind of video file.
After a few seconds video and audio start to stutter and become choppy.

I have seen several other reports about this issue. I tried uninstalling, including complete removal of all related VLC files (playlists, cache, ...) and installing again.
It does not solve the issue.
After the stuttering starts it is impossible to close VLC normally and it has to be killed from the taskbar.
Rebooting and/or any of the other standard advice will not solve this.

I am posting this message merely to support previous posts about the same issue. It does not seem to be an installation related issue. This is a real annoying VLC issue.

Installing 1.1.4 instantly solves the issue.

If any of the dev. team require more info, I'd be happy to assist. I'm using an AMD dual processor, 4GB RAM, Nvidia chipset, ATI Video card on XP SP3. GPU and OpenGL not enabled. Enabling does not solve it though.

l've updated both my desktop and notebook to 1.1.5

My notebook has no issues, but the desktop has the same choppy video as everyone else. Plays fine with just audio, but once video starts, the audio echos and stutters. Clearing installation and reverting to older versions doesn't stop the problem, so vlc is unusable on the desktop.

main error: ES_OUT_SET_(GROUP_)PCR is called too late (pts_delay increased to 300 ms)
avcodec error: more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow ?)

AFAIK, no special features.
Since I uninstalled and removed all VLC directories before installing 1.1.5, I'm using the defaults created by the installer. Usually this works for me fine.

Would indicate that there is a bug in libavcodec.

Same problem. I've reset, uninstalled/reinstalled and attempted a few different settings with no change.

audio plays has a few stutters here and there. Listening to some techno, I can't hardly tell, but most music is unbearable.
video stutters, loops, freezes -- VLC freezes when trying to close the video.

this box is Windows XP x64, no previous issues with VLC.

Does it work any better if you copy libavcodec_plugin.dll from VLC 1.1.4 to VLC 1.1.5?

Using libavcodec_plugin.dll from VLC 1.1.4 in VLC 1.1.5 did not solve the issue in my case.
Still stuttering, hangs on playback. Process has to be killed since it does not exit after the hang.

I just installed 1.1.5, and it is definitely "choppy, stuttering, and unstable." I uninstalled 1.1.5 and re-installed 1.1.4, and everything now works just fine. So, for me, 1.1.5 is an unstable and unusable release.

Here are my system specs:

Intel i7 3.2 GHz (stock speed) processor
Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit
6 GB memory

The computer is almost two years old and is completely stable, with no problems on other applications.

I also had to downgrade again after updating to 1.1.5 yesterday. There were problems both with video and audio playback. Tried the posted suggestions I could find. None worked.

Specs:
XP pro, 2002, SP3
2.26 ghz Intel CPU
2GB RAM

It is a VLC bug.
