No audio A/52 at .96x playback over S/PIDF

Postby VideoSource » 29 Nov 2010 00:55

I'm trying to get PAL audio slowed down on an NTSC system. I'm running VLC 1.1.5 on a Windows Vista machine. The audio to my AV receiver is S/PIDF optical on my sound card. I have the output module set to Win32 waveOut extension output. I have also tried "Default" and "Direct X". My audio device is set to A/52 over S/PIDF.

Audio pitch at 1x sounds a bit high. When I try to playback video at .96x or any other speed the audio cuts out. I have to set the playback back to 1x to get any audio.

If I switch the Audio Device to something other than A/52 S/PIDF I get sound but not Dolby Digital just Pro Logic or stereo.

Is it possible to get .96x Dolby Digital playback?

First disable audio-timestretching in preferences and try again.

Thanks for the reply.

"Enable Time-Stretching audio" is now unchecked and saved.

I am still getting the same result, any speed faster or slower than 1x results in no sound. Once it is reset back to 1x the sound cuts in.

Problem is that AC3(Dolby) or DTS sound cannot be resampled when passed via SPDIF since they are bitstream audio. VLC would have to decode, resample and then encode but since VLC doesn't have Dolby Live or DTS Connect support, the encode step isn't possible.
