VLC only player thats not too dark

I'm not sure why this is happening, maybe you guys can help me.

Hardware:
MediaPC to Plasma TV
DVI to HDMI
nVidia 8800GT
Driver Version: 258.96
Windows 7 64

Software settings:
Dynamic Range: Limited (16-235)

VLC with "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions" enabled (external camera):


VLC with "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions" disabled (external camera):


MPC and XBMC (same as dark picture above)

If I adjust the TVs brightness & contrast, it doesn't bring back detail. It's like everything dark is just merging to black. I think its called "Black Crush" but I thought that was LCDs only/

I tried with a Radeon 4870 and no matter what settings I used, the picture was always too dark.

Looks like the only combination that gives me a good picture is VLC with Hardware YUV>RGB enabled with an 8800GT and old drivers.

TV is calibrated.

to play videos like they should be
change Dynamic Range to full (0-255) in nvidia control panel
and leave "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions" setting enabled


its not a bug of vlc its a wrong default setting from nvidia (for tft/lcd/plasma users)
windows media player and media player classic homecinema are "darker" on default because they use
evr render which uses full dynamik color range per default

so with vlc u need to change color range in nvidia control panel to full range

Hello, I need step by step help to adjust my VLC image that's too dark. It was quite easy in my former version, but I don't understand how to adjust "gamma" now, Thank you in advance for any help.
