Resizing Issues

Postby EA53DW9oF6 » 21 Aug 2010 05:33

Before Update to 1.1.2
i) When opening the program directly the program always opened in the most shrinked down version you could get it.
ii) Exiting fullscreen (either double click or hitting f) caused the program to revert back to it's original size.
iii) Double clicking the title bar from a maximized state shrunk the window down to either the videos size or completely shrunk

After Update to 1.1.2
i) Opening program directly opens it as wide as the last video viewed
ii) Exiting fullscreen sometimes will not revert to original size, or maximized state, but it will take up the entire screen (still drag-able)
iii) Double clicking the title bar does the same as ii above.

It's quite annoying continually having to manually resize the program especially when i'm trying to watch something while laying down, forcing me to get up and resize then play again.

I typically only update when that Check for Updates box pops up which it hadn't. I'm installing it now and will report back.

These aren't Win 7 specific issues. The i issue is related to QT4 changes so you can get the minimal mode by only resizing the player to small size.

Did some browsing but haven't noticed any updates. Is there any info on what's causing this and how to fix it ?

A) How it should open on clean start everytime: http://imgur.com/EPj12.png

B) How it should look playing non-maximized(conforming to video size when initially start playing but allowing me to modify after),
How it should look AFTER you taken it out of fullscreen mode, when fullscreen mode was initialized from this size:
http://imgur.com/EDjp7.png

C) Not fullscreen but maximized: http://imgur.com/LLQTr.png

D) Not maximized but semi-maximized: http://imgur.com/jhT5c.png

Old action(most wanted):
Go from fullscreen mode down to last size it was before maximizing, but literally every time i leave fullscreen mode it goes into image D's view. It used to be once in a while but now it's happening all the time.

As well, on fresh start it always starts off as the last videos screen size despite everything i do.

i'm having the same issue on winXP SP3 version 1.1.4 The Luggage. the window is huge upon starting vlc, where it should be minimal size. deleting preferences and cache doesn't help. i'll do some more investigating and report back more info.

edit: reinstalling seems to fix it just fine. i wonder why resetting preferences and cache had no effect.
anyway, thanks! viva la vlc

OK Well the problem doesn't seem to be going away. Does anyone have an archive of previous versions of VLC? This issue is driving me nuts and i'd rather deal with the crap of older versions that don't have this issue.

Hey folks! This issue still persists in 1.1.5. I believe thats not bug, rather "a feature" some people were asking elsewere "to make it stop resizing". Well, now its not resizing, and its even more annoying. Fix would be if there'd be a switch - resize for one, and keep last known size - for other.

Meanwhile, gentleman, follow my lead:
This annoyance starts with 1.1.2, right? Then, we go to:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/vlc/fil ... e/download
And download latest annoyance-free release, which is, as here been noted, 1.1.1! :)

Thanks to Internet, even if developer refuses to fix some things, you can always downgrade and get all the fun back (example: some people really hate these slow and fuzzy Windows 7, and even slower Windows Vista, so they just downgrade to XP).

For the reference: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=59721

...btw, folks, I found 1.1.1 is lousy too. For one thing, when I try to change full screen and back, it gets stuck. So, reporting that I'm going back to 1.0.3 - the best one between those I've tried. The only problem I have with 1.0.3 is that playlist is not restored correctly (when saved). But what else to do if upper version are just more buggy?

older vlc versions can be found here
http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/

hmmm i don't have a resize bug with vlc
when i open vlc (or double click on a supported audio file) it opens minimized like that
http://imgur.com/EPj12.png

when i open a video it will be opened with 1:1 resolution
after exit vlc it goes back to minimized version

as far as i remember some older nightly versions
for 1.1.x had some rezise problems
when opened or open with double click on audio file they showed an empty video window
like that
http://i.imgur.com/EDjp7.png
but i never have and had this problem with normale release versions

I have also seen the same problem but a slightly different use case. I use 2 monitors, which are phisically apart (and connected by long cables to the PC). I activate the movie from the main monitor (where the keyboard and mouse are) and send it to the 2nd monitor (TV) by dragging VLC player's window to the border of the screen and then pressing "f", so it gets in full screen mode on the TV (and disappears from the PC's screen, as I use DualView).
OK?
The problem comes when I want to change something. I revert it to window mode (again by pressing "f") and the window doesn't go back to the original place (between the 2 screens). Instead it moves to the upper left corner of the TV screen, so it gets harder to drag back to the PC's screen.
This started happening with 1.1.X. I downgraded to 1.0.5.
What I want is that when reverting from window mode after full screen mode the player goes back to its exact original place.

Thank you very much
