Newby setting up vlc for the first time

I found this link whilst searching for a way to play back a media player playlist over my home network so I can listen to it on several pc at the same time and in sync sound wise is this possible.

has anyone got an up to date guide in very simple english so I can try to set this up the version I have dowloaded is 1.1.4 which is not the same as the guide I found to set up vlc on my computers we have several in different places around the house and quite often heve 2 or 3 on at the same time doing different things and would like to listen to the music in sync to them all at the same time as we wander around doing different things
