VLC 1.1.4 release

Postby Jean-Baptiste Kempf » 27 Aug 2010 13:51

A new VLC version is out.

A bit after the 1.1.3, an important security issue was discovery in most windows applications, and VLC is affected too.

Since security issues matters, here is a new release, targeted at Windows!
  • Windows Dll loading security issue, in Qt4 and dmo modules - VideoLAN-SA-1005
  • Fix for folders opening issue on Windows
  • Updated translations

Hi J-B
Help svp!
I just downloaded and successfully installed VLC Media Player on my PC using XP. It works well.
Today I used it again but popup invited me download small update 1.1.4 for security.
I downloaded 19+ MB file, saved it scanned it and clicked to install. After requesting uninstall 1.1.3 it hangs up with a progress popup saying can't write file vlc.exe.

I reinstalled 1.1.3 and tried to install 1.1.4 over it but same hang up occurs. Any helpful advice would be welcome.

Did a check for updates and downloaded 1.1.4.

But when I ran the installer (first uninstaller of prev version ran, that went fine) it failed. There were some files missing whilst it was trying to install :/ , is there something wrong with the 1.1.4 download?.

Gone back to older version for now.

Uninstall/reinstall went perfectly but now when I try and apply a skin and browse for the skin file, VLC wants to "save" the file instead of "open" the skin file. What's up with that?

I was able to select a skin by cutting and pasting the path and file name into the select a skin box.

Hi.
This version 2 times crashed, that wasn't earlier.. And now when select many files that VLC not show in the folder context menus. When select folder(-s) (with music files) in Explorer and click on "Add to VLC media player's playlist" then in playlist is adding not music files, but folder's name and no more.

The VLC PLUGIN within an HTML page does not display the rtsp video stream after upgrading from VLC 1.0.4 to 1.1.4.
It just shows a black rectangle, but does seem to be getting the UDP packets when looking and the network packets using Wireshark

Following is the line of HTML code that used to work before in Mozilla. The plugin has also stopped working in IE
<embed type="application/x-vlc-plugin" name="video2" autoplay="yes" loop="no" hidden="no" width=640 height=480 target="rtsp://192.168.1.8:554/mpeg4/media.amp" />

However if I open the VLC EXE and type the same URL "rtsp://192.168.1.8:554/mpeg4/media.amp" the camera video plays. It is just the PLUGIN that seems to be affected in both Mozilla and IE while the EXE plays the video stream fine. The same PLUGIN does work for ASF streams and it seems that just the RTSP stream has a problem.

Any ideas as to what we can try to get around the problem and get the VLC PLUGIN to work again for RTSP streams?

Just upgraded to V1.1.4 and encountered this issue: the colors are wrong when playing avi movies (loads of blue but little red).
I'm running Windows Server 2003, with a display setting of 16-bit color medium. My previous version (1.0.5) was fine, but with V1.1.4, i had to change the display setting to 32-bit color to get the right color.

Since I haven't been upgrading with every new release, this probably isn't an issue introduced in 1.1.4.

Is there any documentation that says "you have to run with 32-bit true color"?

Anyway, this is no big deal, just wanna let you guys know so it might be fixed in the next release.

No, but it is recommended.

I just upgraded, as well & after the uninstall/reinstall process, the video plays fine...but there's no sound.
I've tried new videos, old videos....nothing has sound any more.
Anybody else have this problem? Know of any way to fix it? Or should I just find the older version?

Upgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 was not a good thing to do, had to revert to 1.1.3.
In 1.1.4 Preferences, Video Settings, Accelerated video output (Overlay) must be unchecked while in 1.1.3 it can be checked.

I'm a user of VLC 1.1.3 since a week or so and it was working reasonable well. Now I have installed 1.1.4 and have a lot of troubles, especially converting seems not to work at all. Can I get the former release, please!?

hey everyone,

I had some problem too, trying to install that new release. First time I did it, I deleted 1.1.3 from my comp. (and the history and preferences related to the program), then installed 1.1.4 without success (It showed an error msg and --please stay polite--...).

So I backup'd my system to where it last worked fine. thought it was the best thing to do to avoid a friggen headache!

A little earlier, there was this major update release for WindowsVista... so I thought It had something to do with it. (I 'm on Vista)

I waited until yesterday to download 1.1.4 and install it again, just cuz I got pissed the last time : It was either me or VLC team that did something wrong.
And I thought I'd do things differently : I deleted 1.1.3 without deleting the history and preferences related to the program! Then I went to the website again, downloaded and installed 1.1.4 AGAIN making sure I wouldn't delete the history (during the installation, the wizard ask you what "file" you wanna install, and at the end of the list, I unchecked "erase history and prefs" (or something like that... not exactly written like this though). That very last part is something really annoying cuz this has nothing to do with a "file" that you would install if you wann erase a friggen history/prefs... anyways, I believe the team has to correct that on the stupid wizard! (Hope they friggen get the message here!)

Now it works. I playbacked some music and it seems fine

So If you backup ur system, don't forget to delete the old download of the 1.1.4 VLC release. Just download it again from the website like I did.

I could not figure out how to install from the FTP archive. Found it easier to download from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/1.1.3.html

I encountered some problems with playing videos from ISO images. When I opened the image directly the menus were bypassed, however if I mounted the image using suitable software then all was OK.
I also found that with some ISO images VLC 1.1.4 would just freeze when I opened the image file directly.
This did not occur in 1.1.3.

I am running Windows 7 Pro X64.

Have gone back to 1.1.3 in the meantime.

The last second is not played in Vista Home Premium and with FLV files. It is an old, almost classic problem since prior versions had it, too.

All media files have that issue when they are played with VLC.
